Neamine/kanamycin resistance mutations in chloroplast 16S ribosomal RNA
These mutations, mapping to the extreme 3' end of the 16S rRNA, confer resistance to both neamine and kanamycin.
Allele: nr-u-2-1
(A>G at nt1340, equivalent to E. coli nt1408)
Allele: kr-u-24-2
(C>U at nt1341, equivalent to E. coli nt1409)
The kr-u-24-2 mutant resembles nr-u-2-1 in its resistance to neamine or kanamycin on agar plates, but the chloroplast ribosomes isolated from this mutant are not as resistant to these antibiotics as those of nr-u-2-1 when assayed in poly-U-directed amino acid incorporation in vitro.

Allele: kr-u-35-3
(not sequenced, but phenotypically indistinguishable from kr-u-24-2)
