Assistant Professor, University of Nebraska, Lincoln

The School of Biological Sciences at UNL is searching for a new Assistant Professor performing algal research. This is an excellent opportunity for a new investigator to join a large and vigorous group of algal researchers on our campus.

Two tenure-track positions are open, one in Algal/Microbial Molecular Biology, and one in Ecological Modeling, as follows:

Algal/Microbial Molecular Biology. Tenure-track Assistant Professor at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Candidates will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program using an algal system to address significant cellular, metabolic or physiological processes and employ modern 'omics' technologies for uncovering gene function and system-level pathway analyses. Candidates must show excellent capacity to develop and coordinate interdisciplinary collaborative research. Candidates will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A PhD (or equivalent) in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, cell biology or related field and two years postdoctoral experience (or equivalent) is required. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience

Ecological Modeling. Tenure-track Assistant Professor at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Candidates will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program in either a basic or applied context in natural or human-dominated systems, addressing questions in conservation biology, disease dynamics, ecological risk assessment, or other areas of population, community or ecosystem ecology. The successful candidate is expected to develop strong collaborations and in so doing contribute significantly to UNL's Life Sciences Initiative. Candidates will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A PhD (or equivalent) and experience in mathematical modeling and/or computer programming is required. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants should go to http://employment.unl.edu, search for requisition number 110506 and 110596 respectively, complete the Faculty Academic/Administrative Information form, attach a letter of application, Curriculum Vitae, a statement of research plans, and statement of teaching interests.

Post-Doctoral Research Associate, Kansas State University

A post-doctoral Research Associate position is available fall 2011 at Kansas State University in the Division of Biology to study multicellular evolution using algae as a model system. This is a cross-disciplinary position and preference will be given to those with demonstrated experience in any of these areas: genome/transcriptome sequencing, genetic screening, molecular cell biology, or algal biology. Computational biology experience is highly desired. The successful candidate will have access to state of the art facilities and the ability to work collaboratively within Kansas State and with national and international collaborators. A highly motivated career oriented candidate is most preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a one-page summary of their past research accomplishments and a one page summary of future research interests and career goals to Dr. Bradley Olson at biology@k-state.edu.
